Recently Wyre Response had the pleasure of carrying out exterior cleaning work at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster.
The nursery has two large glass canopies — one covering the main entrance and another in the courtyard area. Over time both had built up a layer of algae, dirt and environmental debris which was affecting their appearance and reducing the amount of natural light passing through the glass.
The nursery asked if we could restore the canopies to help improve the look of the building and brighten the entrance area for staff, children and parents.
The Cleaning Process
Due to the height of the canopies and working alone on site, a safe working system was essential.
A ladder safety system was set up to ensure the ladder remained secure while working at height. This included:

Securing the ladder using climbing slings and tapes

Anchoring to nearby posts for stability

Using a movable safety line so the ladder could be repositioned safely

Closing off the work area with cones and signage to keep the public clear
Once the area was made safe, the cleaning process began.
The glass panels, framework and undersides of the canopy were thoroughly cleaned to remove:

Algae growth

Dirt and grime
-
Organic debris
The result was a much clearer canopy allowing more light through and greatly improving the overall appearance of the nursery entrance.
The Result
After the clean, both canopies looked significantly brighter and cleaner.
Removing the build-up of algae and dirt not only improves the appearance of the building but also helps maintain the condition of the glass and framework long term.
